CHALLENGE
The previous website provided a basic online presence, but its structure, presentation and publishing capabilities no longer matched the needs of an active local fire department.
News and interventions had limited visibility, permanent content was difficult to explore, the mobile experience was basic, and there was no modern workflow for publishing new content.
The goal of the rebuild was to create a clearer and more useful public-facing website while giving the organisation a practical way to keep the site current over time.

DESIGN & RESPONSIVE EXPERIENCE
The new site was designed from scratch around the identity and everyday work of DVD Stari Grad rather than building on the look and structure of the legacy website.
Real photography, stronger typography and a clearer editorial structure give interventions, members, vehicles and the organisation’s history greater visual importance.
Mobile, tablet and desktop layouts were treated as distinct responsive experiences, with navigation, imagery and content hierarchy adapting to the available space.

CONTENT & PUBLISHING
A major part of the rebuild was giving news and interventions a proper place on the site, with a system built for ongoing publishing.
The previous news section was replaced with Aktualno, combining a clear content overview with dedicated article pages, cover photography, rich content, galleries and article navigation.
Six articles were prepared for launch, giving the site content from day one rather than an empty publishing framework.

CUSTOM PUBLISHING SYSTEM
Behind Aktualno is a purpose-built CMS created specifically for DVD Stari Grad instead of relying on WordPress or an external content platform.
Editors can manage drafts and published posts, featured content, categories, dates, cover images, galleries, image order and alt text.
D1 and R2 provide the content and media foundation, with safeguards around uploads, media ownership, gallery failures, cover replacement and duplicate draft creation.
CONTENT ARCHITECTURE
Pages such as O društvu were rebuilt around authentic photography, structured information and stronger visual hierarchy instead of generic legacy presentation.
The site now works both as a source of current activity and as a longer-term digital record of the organisation and its role in the local community.

PRODUCTION FOUNDATION
The site runs on Cloudflare-native infrastructure using Workers, separate D1 databases, R2 media storage and Cloudflare Access for the private admin area.
The contact flow includes server-side validation, Turnstile, honeypot protection, rate limiting, submission tracking and transactional email through Resend.
SEO and analytics were built into the site through metadata, sitemap support, Search Console and GA4. Motion remains lightweight and respects reduced-motion preferences.
Deployment is automated from GitHub to Cloudflare, so updates can be published without a manual deployment process.
RESULT
The project transformed a basic legacy website into a modern digital platform that better reflects the work, history and role of DVD Stari Grad.
